ADDRESSING MARKET CONSTRAINTS IN TYPICAL AGRI-DEALER RETAIL NETWORKS

The African Fertilizer Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) is an independent non-profit organization created through a partnership of African development organizations. In partnership with FtF IAM, AFAP is leveraging the Hub agro-dealer model (while the Hub does offer some direct sales to farmers, the major role of the Hub is to create demand for products and to link farmers to established retail networks in their areas. This allows the Hub to develop an improved distribution network for their products as well as offer agricultural extension and marketing promotions to the retail outlets) to address market constraints in typical agri-dealer retail networks by linking Hub owners to large input suppliers. AFAP held a meeting with i-Procure, the FtF IAM software partner entering the Ugandan market from Kenya, to discuss how other hubs can access installment payments for the i-Pos devices that help hubs manage inventory and sales data. AFAP also had a meeting with the FtF Institution System Strengthening activity (FtF ISS) to discuss collaboration on the National Fertilizer Platform of Uganda whose secretariat is held at AFAP.
