ADRESSING UNINTENDED GENDER BASED VIOLENCE CONSEQUENCES IN AGRICULTURE AND MARKET SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMING

Feed the Future Uganda Inclusive Agricultural Markets (FtF IAM) Activity has been piloting the FtF IAM Advancing Women Empowerment Gender-Based Violence (GBV) toolkit for agriculture and Market System Development (MSD) programs through its partners and interventions. This toolkit has provided practical guidance for the program technical staff to identify how and where GBV intersects with agriculture and MSD programming. The tools enable project staff and GBV champions at the Activity and its partners to identify entry points to integrate GBV prevention, mitigation, and response into program activities.

This week, in an effort to strengthen the collaboration with other IPs, FtF IAM oriented the USAID-funded Integrated Community Agriculture and Nutrition (ICAN) Activity and the Feed the Future Institutional and Systems Strengthening (FtF ISS) Activity on the toolkit, focusing on addressing GBV which is a barrier to achieving program outcomes and strategies and how to address unintended GBV consequences of the program activities. Thirteen (13) ICAN technical staff and one FtF ISS staff attended the session. There was high interest in the resource and USAID/ICAN committed to integrating the content of the toolkit in their upcoming gender equity and social inclusion refresher training, for which FtF IAM will provide support. FtF IAM shared the toolkit with all the IP staff who were in attendance for use.
