BEEF SECTOR VALIDATION WORKSHOP IN MOROTO DISTRICT

BEEF SECTOR VALIDATION WORKSHOP IN MOROTO DISTRICT

On Tuesday, May 16, FtF IAM facilitated the beef sector validation workshop in the Moroto district, Karamoja sub-region, to present the meat study findings, seek validation, stimulate debate among stakeholders, and find solutions to the existing gaps.

FtF IAM in collaboration with the Uganda Meat Producers Cooperative Union Ltd (UMPCU), contracted the Integrated Agricultural Development Support Services Ltd to conduct a country-wide meat industry study with a special focus on the Karamoja region. The major purpose of this study was to identify and validate information on the potential, opportunities, and challenges, in the sector and provide recommendations for industrial growth. In particular, the study was meant to establish the commercial viability of at least three (3) inclusive business models identified by UMPCU and focused on private sector-led solutions towards improving animal health, meat quality standards, and livestock production and productivity in general terms within Uganda.
