INPUT SUPPLY AND AGRIBUSINESS SERVICES SPOTLIGHT FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 1

INPUT SUPPLY AND AGRIBUSINESS SERVICES SPOTLIGHT FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 1

FtF IAM works with agro-input companies to increase farmers’ access to quality agro-inputs (seed, fertilizers, and chemicals) hence increasing their productivity and production. Currently, partners are making pre-season preparations for season B 2022.

  • Agro Supply Uganda Ltd, Imported 44,927kgs of seeds (Maize = 34,919kgs, Sorghum = 10,008kgs) from SEEDCO Nairobi. The seeds will be sold to farmers in Acholi, Lango, Karamoja, and Mt Elgon sub-regions through agro-dealers, village agents, and a Layaway saving system (where farmers redeem their savings as seed).
  • African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP Uganda) mapped 108 rural agro-input retailers to work with the agro-dealers to distribute quality inputs to farmers. AFAP also organized business-to-business meetings where rural agro-input retailers participated and were trained on business management, customer care, market creation, and retention which will enable them to sell quality inputs to more farmers in season B 2022.
  • Home Harvest held a field day in Oyam district which attracted 85 farmers (Women = 31). The farmers were sensitized and trained on the benefits of soybean yield enhancer – the inoculant and how it is handled and used. This will create demand for inoculant and soybean seeds in season B 2022.
  • MARA Agribusiness trained 208 farmers in the safe use and handling of fertilizers, and the discount and commission business structure from which farmers will benefit by purchasing inputs at a reduced price. This will enable farmers to purchase enough inputs in preparation for season B. MARA has so far distributed 4,000kgs of NPK YARA fertilizer to 123 farmers in Sironko and Bulambuli through a layered partnership (MARA Agro dealer-village agent- farmer).
