The Activity contributes to the Global Food Security Strategy (GFSS) Uganda goal of reducing hunger, malnutrition, and poverty and the USAID/Uganda Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS) 2016-2021 five-year goal of strengthening Uganda’s systems to accelerate inclusive education, health, and economic outcomes.

The Activity has triple objectives of:

  1. Increasing the institutional capacity of GOU institutions and agencies;
  2. Increasing the institutional capacity of the private sector and civil society organizations; and,
  3. Creating incentives for agro-industry and agribusiness firms to respond to changes in the market system and invest in it.

Approach:

FtF IAM adopts a facilitative market systems development (MSD) approach and uses its Market Development Facility (MDF) to collaborate with market actors, build capacity and de-risk private sector investment. This facilitative approach ownership of the change processes and sustainability of development results. In line with best practices in Collaboration, Learning, and Adapting (CLA), FtFIAM build adaptation and learning into all of its partnerships, and adapts its strategy based on the results, analysis and feedback generated by its partnerships under the MDF.
