Under the COVID-9 response intervention, FtF IAM is working through social organizations to increase the capacity of market traders’ associations to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols and improve sanitation in their markets. This week, partner Water Access Consulting Services Ltd, installed eight (8) handwashing facilities and conducted cleaning and disinfection full-day sessions at four markets in Gulu and Lamwo districts.
- Partner Research Triangle Consortium (RTC) conducted a meeting with market leaders, and district and municipal staff to review progress and share knowledge on hygiene and sanitation of the marketplaces in Kapchorwa district- Eastern Uganda.
- Kalongo Parish Women Association (FOKAPAWA), an NGO working with FtF IAM, has trained 23 market vendor committee members (14 Women) on hygiene practices including operation and maintenance of the handwashing facilities in the Moroto market. FOKAPAWA also trained 40 market vendor members (26 women) on liquid soap making in Moroto and Kaabong Markets– While skills in liquid soap making ensure the availability of affordable detergents for hand washing stations, they are also a complimentary business for women vendors in the markets to make an extra income.
