FtF IAM contracted The Link Agency East Africa (TLAEA), a private consultancy firm to build the capacity of Mbale Industrial Area Millers Association (MIAMA) to operate efficiently and serve its members effectively.
This week, TLAEA linked MIAMA to Food Sitoowa, an online marketplace that connects farmers, manufacturers, distributors, and producers to potential off-takers. MIAMA is discussing terms & conditions of engagement that would lead to the signing of a legally binding MoU with Food Sitoowa for marketing of MIAMA member millers’ certified processed products. Food Sitoowa will identify potential off-takers of certified products, negotiate terms on behalf of MIAMA and enable access to markets. This mechanism once operationalized will actualize the flow of income streams to the agro-processors in terms of sales earnings and commissions to FOOD Sitoowa resulting from successful sales. It will also provide learning for the FtF IAM Activity on the potential benefits of certification of processed foods to cereal processors that can be shared to get more buy-in for certification of processed foods.
