VALUE ADDITION AND QUALITY FOOD TRADE SPOTLIGHT FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 22.

FtF IAM works with private consulting companies to coach and mentor agro-processors on compliance with food standards.

  • Food Safety Associates (FSA) has trained and recruited two (2) additional locally based Consulting Service Providers (CSPs) in Karamoja. The CSPs will identify agro-processors in the southern Karamoja sub-region, conduct gap assessments, and develop road maps for building the agro-processor’s capacities on good manufacturing and hygiene (GMP and GHP) practices. This is part of the efforts to address the food processing quality gaps in Karamoja sub-region.
  • The Link Agency East Africa (TLAEA), a private consultancy firm engaged by FTF IAM to provide capacity-building services to the Mbale Industrial Area Millers Associations (MIAMA) to operate efficiently and serve its members effectively, continues to mobilize agro-processors to develop the Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCO) that commenced active operations in May 2022. The SACCO will offer MIAMA members expansive benefits such as lower account fees, higher interest rates on savings, and lower interest rates on loans compared to banks and other financial institutions. This is intended to solve the constraint of limited finances and working capital for the members. MIAMA executives also plan to rally the general assembly in the upcoming annual general meeting scheduled for September 2022 to vote for a compulsory saving by all registered members.
