In partnership with Food Safety Associates (FSA), Partners in Food Solutions (PFS), and Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), FtF IAM is working to build the capacity of processors to produce safe and quality certified products that meet the quality requirements of premium markets. On Friday, September 13, Manyakabi Area Cooperative Enterprise, a grain processor that has been supported by FtF IAM, obtained the UNBS quality mark (Q-Mark) for their maize flour products, now branded and trading as Manya Millers. In the process of acquiring certification, Manya Millers invested over UGX68Million (est. $17,500) for factory upgrading, and product rebranding and has employed a quality control manager to implement the standards. FtF IAM will continue to support Manya Millers with technical assistance to reach markets that will pay more for certified and safe foods while improving the quality management of Manya Millers’ supply chain so that they can consistently source quality grain from smallholder farmers and depend less on importing grade A maize from outside the region.
